I've looked at this book for a long time before I eventually dared to start reading it. I'm not a science fiction fan, it was big, so it kind of scared me? Unnecessary, so it became clear pretty fast. It's an interesting story, and more important, I loved the characters. They felt 3d, real. Sometimes annoying, sometimes judging and sometimes heroic, but they had a very nice mix of character traits. What I liked most of all was that the assumptions you made in the beginning weren't necessarily true. The archetypes you'd expect were not what you think they would be. Nice surprise!
