Daughter of Smoke & Bone
by Laini Taylor
My baseline right now for a rating is 4 stars. I haven’t fully decided if I want to give it more yet but I’m starting at 4.
I really liked it. Its such a popular series by a very loved author and this was my first book by Laini Taylor. I loved the writing style of this. The way she wrote it was so beautiful.
I went into this pretty blind. All I knew about it was that there was something to do with teeth with it. I liked that I didn’t really know much about it because I felt that it helped the experience of this a lot. It kept me gripped. It was only the last 100 pages where the plot twist happened. Was I expecting it, not really but I liked the ending less which is why I’m deducting. I enjoyed the ending but at the same time not as much.
Karou was a really great character. She had no idea of who she was or anything about her life. She lives in Prague, my DREAM city to visit, she’s an artist, she’s got blue hair and tattoos. I love her. Akiva was an interesting character as well. I’m excited for the next book to explore them more as characters. I loved Zuzana! She was such a great friend to Karou! She was wonderful and I loved her love for sweets. She was great!
I loved the setting of this as well. I found it super interesting that Karou would go through a door and enter a completely new city. Also when she explored other places as well that were new to her.
I’m excited to read the next book. Thanks to the read along for these books that I finally picked this one up!
