The City by Dean Koontz
4.0

Almost 60 years old, Jonah Kirk relays a major story of his youth in NYC. A piano prodigy, Jonah lives with his beautiful songstress mom and is raised by his grandfather and grandmother. Living in a building filled with wonderous inhabitants, Jonah is empathetic to the goings on within his block. Visited by a mysterious woman who claims she is "the soul of City", Jonah's nightmares begin to come true as he sees the characters in his buiding and it brings only terror. Finding support from one of his neighbours, they begin to discover that something terrible is happening, which includes Jonah's sometimes father, from whom Jonah wishes nothing. Koontz is a master storyteller.
