The Whizz Pop Chocolate Shop by Kate Saunders

5.0

I thoroughly enjoyed this middle grade adventure, and can only imagine the delight its targeted audience would feel!

Twins Oz and Lilly with their parents move into an inherited Victorian that 70 years earlier also doubled as the chocolate shop of their deceased triplet uncles. And what a chocolate shop it was, producing chocolates with special qualities, magical ones. Immediately after moving in, Lilly meets talking cat Demerara, who at first only Lilly can see. In a flash Demerara has pulled Lilly, Oz, and the boy across the street into high adventure as agents of a super secret branch of MI6 that handles anything involving magic and the unexplained. Their adventure includes ghosts, magical creatures, family secrets, magic, chocolate, and an evil villain, as well as a delightful set of subsidiary characters. My favorite is Edwin the Elephant Ghost.

I was reminded of the Harry Potter series, of course, as it is similar. But it is also different...far lighter, less evil. I would not mind seeing a whole series.
