Les Misérables - Tome III - Marius by Victor Hugo

4.0

It is definitely impossible to accuse Victor Hugo of not fleshing out his characters. Every single one of backstory - and even the characters in their backstories have a backstory !! Which gives you a lot of (sometimes unnecessary IMO) information.

He also loves talking about History, and although it is interesting to have the insight of someone who lived in that century, it does get quite long.

However, I do love how he sets every piece in place like a check master, including the psychological profiling of his characters. I also love how gradual Marius and Cosette's love is. And this volume introduces us to Gavroche !! (well, in fact, not really, but I had forgotten whose son he was)
