Early One Morning by Robert Ryan
4.0

Rival 1930s racing drivers become good friends and are later recruited by the Special Operations Executive (SOE) to organise resistance and sabotage in occupied France.

I came across this at a bargain price at a school fair. Not an obvious choice for me, but I guess the crass reference to Sebastian Faulks got me interested. A fictionalised account based on real-life drivers, William Grover-Williams and Robert Benoist. The characters are not well developed, particularly Eve; but it is a good read and stimulated interest in reading factual accounts of the SOE.
