Daisy Darker by Alice Feeney

3.0

I was in love with the first bit of the story (that’s starting to become my catch phrase) with the imagery of the house and it’s environment. It felt like you were there eating sweets and listening to the clocks ticking. The way she described the story made me think of neverending story 2 with the city on acid waters. I understand that there are families that have issues, but still show up to family occasions. That fact that no one would speak to Daisy was a red flag from the get go. I knew she wasn’t flesh and blood. I didn’t think she was a freakin ghost though. This book is the sixth sense meets mindhunters. I thought Daisy was a separate personality or imaginary or she was editing out events as they happened if she was real. There’s no way they accuse Daisy of doing this but not say it to her face. Lily is the most confrontational character ever she would have made at least a smart comment about Daisy’s outfit. I will admit I thought Daisy didn’t get the house because of the mean tricks she did as a kid. IT NEVER REALLY EXPLAINS WHY CONNOR WAS THERE. Even the grandma was like why he here? Also I could tell something was up when every time Rose checked someone’s pulse they were harping on, “Are you sure?!” She’s a vet I think she knows how to check a pulse so that was next hint something weird was up. Trixie was dead obvious. The amount of red herrings in this was insane. It literally starts with the publisher receiving the manuscript so how could he be the killer. I thought maybe the grandma had it set up in her will after she dies to send it off. But its all from Daisy’s point of view so it had to be maybe Daisy faked her death and was sending that to be like I know you were the killer. Either way was weird making him such a big red herring. Connor’s dad was also a huge red herring. Obviously Trixie was mad the family was gonna try to take her inheritance. Also how was Trixe so surprised the grandma died she saw her put the poisoned sugar in her cup of tea. Also IT NEVER OFFERS AN EXPLANATION OF WHAT THEY’RE GONNA DO AFTERWARDS! Like I know Daisy gonna somehow write a novel on a laptop would have made more sense for Trixie to type while Daisy tells her what to write. Also how was Connor not so freaked out given everything that happened with Daisy’s death. The I know what you did last summer flashback was cruel. I lost all pity for all of them. Trixie keeps saying she wants to be free over and over and over. How that gonna work out if she obviously gonna get caught theres no way she can get away with shooting Rose. The grandma will test negative for gunpowder. Like they didn’t even try to explain that. Disappointing, the author said this is her favorite book. It doesn’t feel like this book was years in the making.
