I think the essays compiled at the end are incredible calls to action. It’s difficult to read something written in 2014 about the prospects and imagined future of Gaza amidst an ongoing genocide in Gaza. I would have given this a higher rating if it provided more background on the Palestinian fight for self determination. I have a prior understanding of the crimes committed against the Palestinian people which is helpful to exploring such a heavy book. Hearing from a former Zionist is jarring and prior to reading this book I wasn’t aware that Pappe had been a Zionist. Very interesting.
