The Serpent and the Wolf by Rebecca Robinson
4.0

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
This debut novel had it all, enemies to lovers slow burn romance, waring nations, political intrigue, and witches with some amazingly vicious powers. Once I was able to set aside time during this crazy busy holiday month I was unable to put this book down, it just begged for me to keep turning page after page. We start the book at the beginning of our FMC Vassa’s wedding, a wedding she neither agreed to nor wanted but was forced into by her brother for his own political gains and schemes. Her new husband, the ruthless and foreign leader Reid of Miren is the last person she wanted to spend her possible last days with. For not only must she combat living in a foreign land but also a plaguing dark magic has consumed her. With each passing day she feels her life slowly being taken from the mists of darkness that surround her. With death on her heels she reluctantly makes a deal with her new husband to help him secure votes to stay in his position of power and in exchange he will provide her with knowledge about the magic seeping in her veins.
The Serpent and the Wolf wastes no time completely drawing the reader in with its fast paced plot. Once Vassa and Reid struck up their deal I found myself quickly turning pages eager to see where this dagger wielding team up would find themselves. As a huge lover of enemies to lovers I thoroughly enjoyed their spicy tension and banter, as well as watching them truly become well matched allies. I also enjoyed seeing Vassa become more trusting despite being severely broken and apprehensive of letting others in. It truly added a vulnerable authenticity to her character and opportunity for growth and character development. The world building was colorful and exciting, especially concerning the fact of its witch covens and their different magical abilities. Simply put this book was a romantasy lovers dream and I can’t wait to see where the sequel takes these characters.
If you are a fan of dark hidden shadow magic, found family, political maneuverings, knife wielding FMCs, and of course the ever favorite trope of “who did this to you” then you definelty should check out this book.

Special thanks to Saga Press for sending me a copy of this amazingly magical debut novel✨
