The Compound by Aisling Rawle
3.5

This book was eye opening. It didn’t necessarily make me feel good - in fact, it left me feeling kind of icky - but in the best way a sharp, satirical thriller can. Rawle really digs into consumerism and how much it’s seeped into every corner of our lives, even our relationships. The way the “game” unfolded was cruel but so effective, and it made me stop and think about how easily people can get swept up in the promise of “more.”

Lily was such an interesting character to follow. Watching her battle between wanting those shiny rewards and trying to hold onto real human connection really hit me. It was uncomfortable at times, but I think that’s the point.

This isn’t a cozy or feel-good read - it’s sharp, unsettling, and thought provoking. If you like thrillers that leave you questioning bigger ideas about society, this one is worth picking up.
