A Ladder to the Sky by John Boyne

5.0

I didn't know what I was getting myself into when I started this book. I think it's best to go in with no expectations and knowing as little as possible.

Starting a new story is always disorienting, as is jumping between various POVs. This book only goes through a few POVs but I found myself sad when a POV ended. I wanted to stay with each character forever, but I always found myself in love with the next one. It takes a lot of restraint to leave a character behind with so many things unexplored, but this novel does it well and moves swiftly. It doesn't overstay its welcome.

However, out of all the character's perspectives, I found Maurice Swift's to be the least interesting. He was the star of the show, but I don't think his perspective communicated that. Despite this, I loved the book. If you look books about authors, definitely go for this one.
