Overthinking About You: Dating with Anxiety, OCD, and Depression by Allison Raskin

Really glad I picked this up! This book made me feel seen and was a really kind approach to giving dating and relationship advice. A lot of modern dating advice doesn’t resonate with me and makes me feel ashamed of my anxiety, so this was really refreshing. I didn’t mind the hyper-conversational, peppy tone of the book because I am a huge fan of Allison/the JBU podcast, but I can understand why other people wouldn’t like that.

This is more of a me problem, but I think this book was more geared towards folks in new relationships than it was towards chronically single girlies like me. It gave me lots to think about, and I can see myself returning to this book when I do enter my next relationship. The chapter about dating productively was unfortunately a let down—it didn’t teach me anything I didn’t already know from experience and was filled with cliché modern dating advice I hear all the time. Lots of helpful info for dating newbies, but not so much for those of us who have been around the block a few times.
