The Four by Ellie Keel

dark sad tense slow-paced

2.5

In a word? Disappointing. An over-written and under-developed mess of frustrating and un-engaging character work. At its best— an exploration of the dark and shocking lengths we’ll go to for toxic love (in all its forms). At its worst— straight up trauma porn that made me wonder how it ever got published. All that being said, the author is clearly a talented prose writer, but the story structure and character development was deeply disappointing and worse, painfully boring.
