My Education by Susan Choi
4.0
First things first, I hate this book. Second, I love this book. The first time I read this book I was so lost, possibly the first gay book I read, owned. Regina's character was comforting, universal in her mistakes and love. Reading it after a few years feels reminiscent of older Regina reflecting on what she didn't know at 21. At what point do we look at our past selves kindly? And that is my favorite thing about this book: the little moments we get of retrospection as Regina is now herself a married woman, a mother, a successful writer. There's no regret or anger, she's not perfect and that's fine.
