Defending Jacob by William Landay
4.5
dark mysterious reflective tense medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: No
Diverse cast of characters: Complicated
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

it's not the most realistic wrt character reactions to events in parts but its imo a really good read, the author's extensive law background makes the legal side of things fairly realistic and satisfying too. though i do think the "bad guy" prosecutor is a bit one dimensional in a way that doesn't really make sense and the narrator's evil prison da could idk maybe stand to be fleshed out like a real person a bit more.
