Los asesinos del emperador (Trajano #1) by Santiago Posteguillo
4.0

This tome reaches more than 1100 pages of text, and that's before the appendices! Still, having recently returned from a trip to Rome, I saw this at the airport and decided I could use some good historical fiction to keep the Roman experience close to my heart (closer than the several pounds gained which are a constant reminder as well!). Despite its incredible length, this is an easy read. It's direct and simple style make the complex, very detailed story take the lead. Populated with an enormous cast of characters, from the sublime to the despicable, it does not lack for entertainment, if you consider a violent succession of assassinations and a desperate plot to remove a despot from power entertaining. I must, as I managed to push my way through its bulk and not mind lugging it like a Bible everywhere for a month.
