What the Wind Knows
by Amy Harmon
In “What the Wind Knows,” Amy Harmon has wrapped a love story with the tumultuous history of Ireland in the 1920’s in an engaging web. Anne Gallagher is devastated after losing her grandfather. She has traveled to Ireland as she has promised. There she is pulled in to the history and magic on Ireland.
Despite this book starting off a little slow, probably because I was not expecting the magical realism, it is probably one of my favorites of the year. I found this to be a really creative and fascinating way to tell the story of Easter Rising in 1916 in Ireland and the fight for Independence. Harmon has created a great sense of place and time. wrapping you in the early 1920s in Ireland. The characters were engaging and heartfelt. I loved the authors note and how she gathered the inspiration from her own family history. Overall, I loved this one.
