A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin

4.0

The book that started it all. It's really a very standard-setting book, and if you're going to set up a political fantasy, Ned's interaction with Cersei following his discovery of the true lineage of Robert's children, is the perfect scene to summarize the entirety of the series within a single chapter.

That draw and the affect it has had, speaks for itself, what I will add is that were I to be trapped on a island with only a volleyball for company, that scene earns A Game of Thrones a place on the books that I would choose to be trapped on the island with me.
