First Drop of Crimson
by Jeaniene Frost
This is a book in the Night Huntress world, and it ties into the main series, set after #4.
Denise is Cat's best friend. During a mass attack of undead, Denise's husband was torn apart. This turned Denise off so thoroughly to the undead world that she even has cut ties to Cat.
Unfortunately for her, generations ago, a demon made a deal with a relative of hers and the demon now wants his prey. His clever plan first involved simply killing all of the prey's relatives, but then he finds out the Denise has access to vampires and his prey must be in with vampires or the demon would have found him.
Enter Spade -- Bones' best friend, who Denise knew and was attracted to back in the day. She enlists his help because she does not want to risk Cat.
PNR goodness follows.
I really liked this read. It had unique characters. The erotic scenes were quite good and the action was excellent and continuing. The choice to have the human (OK, sort of human at that point) deal with the demon in the end (instead of vampires doing the violence) was quite good.
