Off to the Races by Elsie Silver

emotional

4.0

When I started reading this book, I assumed it would be a solid 3-star for me. Just something I was reading because my book club was. But, the emotional turmoil at times had me in literal tears, which is typically a 5-star in my book. The only reason I didnt go for the 5-star is that the emotions mostly occurred under Vaughn's POV. I like Billie as a character, but I didnt feel as connected to her. Maybe her background wasn't explored enough? I cant say for sure, but I found it lacking. Vaughn, however.... Elsie Silver completely NAILED the devastated, I'd-do-anything-even-beg feel with Vaughn. Not sure what that says about me that I find it so utterly panty-dropping to see a man willingly go to such extremes to win someone's heart. Overall, I probably wont rush to buy a trophy book for my shelves, but I genuinely enjoyed this book (my first Elsie Silver amd first horse book since Black Beauty).
