I think I just needed more. I don’t like novellas because they rarely have enough time to pack enough punch. There just wasn’t enough time exploring the dynamics between our FMC, the crew, the MMC, and the ship. This could have been really interesting with a little bit more sci-fi added.
I will never chalk up unexplained things as “part of the story” or whatever. If you can explain something, you should. And that’s still true here. There was just too much left unexplained in the end. Too many unanswered questions
