Death Note: Black Edition, Vol. 5 by Tsugumi Ohba
2.0
2.5 stars.
I feel bad about this rating but 5/10 feels right for me so here we are. Don’t get me wrong, this is still an entertaining series, it’s just nothing on what it was in the first 3(ish) volumes and I no longer care particularly about any of the characters. Having given Volume 4, 3 stars, this in comparison is a 2.
I wasn't even bored at any point, Death Note is just as fast-paced as it has always been but its also pretty convoluted and confusing at times. For example, I find it pretty difficult to keep track of the rules at the beginning of the chapters as they are all so interwoven and dependent on you knowing every rule.
Plus, I know it is kind of a thing throughout the entire series, but my God the sexism is getting kind of harder to ignore. Every single smart and strong character is male and I can only think of about 3 female characters that I know the names of while there are so many male ones.
I will finish as I only have one volume left, but the story is dragging a bit now. I am excited to see how everything wraps up but I don't have the highest hopes.
