The Contender by robert-lipsyte, robert-lipsyte

I'm the type of girl that rolled her eyes and cringed internally whenever a teacher whipped out a sports metaphor to explain something that would have been easier to understand if they had just explained it plainly without any sort of metaphor. I guess, in short, I'm not a sports fan. I don't follow any teams and I don't get super enthused about watching any sort of game. Whenever I did have to attend a game due to my obligations as a cousin or a sister, I always had a book on hand. What does this have to do with The Contender? Well, when I tell you that I really liked this book, this book that centers around boxing (an athletic sport), that should tell you something. It should tell you a lot.
