Practical Demonkeeping by Christopher Moore

3.0

I have loved a lot of Christopher Moore books. I read book 3 in this series first - The Stupidest Angel. The book felt like all character development and only the sparsest story. I thought maybe I would appreciate it more if I understood the town of Pine Cove better so I went back and read this book - the first in the series. Same thing. Practical Demonkeeping did have better story telling with some very fun twists and connections in the end. Everything comes together - I like that in a story. But I feel like we spend most of the book learning about characters and their back stories and not all of the characters or back stories seem relevant.

I still like Christopher Moore as a writer - and I love hearing him talk about the writing process. But the Pine Cover story is not my cup of tea.
