The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein
5.0

This book is so great. i wish it had color but at the same time it really helps the child to focus on what is happening in the image instead of just looking around at all the different things going on. overall i love this book and always have. it has a great message and i think kids really will enjoy it too, forever. This is a great book for k-3. Even though some of it is simple, the concept can be hard to understand for too young of children.

Like i said, the illustrations are just plain black and white except the cover which is all green except the apple and the young boys overalls. It is great because it shows the boy getting older and also the tree getting older but yet the tree will give away anything for the boy to be happy and the tree always was happy. in the end, the tree helped the boy well now man one last time by giving him a stump to rest on. It is just a sweet story of loving and caring for one another. it's great for read aloud because it has a great message and easy images to show the students. It has two voices in it so it could be read by multiple people.

Discussions for this book could be about why helping is important, if the students ever thought the tree was tired of helping the boy or if it always wanted to help. It also, helps to show time in a long span because it shows the boy who turns into an old man.
