If You Hate Me by Helena Hunting

2.5

Ultimately, I don’t think this book was for me. While the premise was certainly my type of read, I found the story itself difficult to get through.

Never did I think I would be overwhelmed with spicy scenes, but I did here. It just felt like everything turned into some sort of hookup moment. It was a lot, even with it being a hookup to lovers so sort vibe, it was a lot. Also, the scenes themselves didn’t really vibe with the rest of the plot. We’d have an emotional confession then rough sex then a fight and maybe a sex scene where it was being used to harm. Just didn’t do it for me.

When I read the description of the book, I was excited to read it. Brother’s best friend is a fun trope and I am very much in my hockey player era. However, there was just too much going on with these characters (and too many little breakups like wtf) for me to care anymore about them by the end. Maybe without what felt like consistent drama and childish (and sometimes downright cruel) reactions, I could have cared, but eventually Tristan just made me hate him and it stuck that way.

Still, I am grateful for the opportunity to ARC review for this book. Not every book is for every person and that’s totally okay.
