nsusdorf 's review for:
Who Was Walt Disney?
by Who HQ, Whitney Stewart
I read this in preparation to teach it next quarter to a reading group. What I really enjoy about this series as a whole is that they don't skirt away from the unpleasant, but talk about it in a way that is appropriate for young readers. I adore when books treat kids with respect, and don't sugar coat life. For instance, this book certainly talked about all the big details, but also included Disney's bad temper and the race issues that came out of one of his films. I also really like when books show kids that it's ok to not be good at school, but that hard work and determination are keys to successful life. Anyways, really looking forward to sharing this one with my students!
