The last time I read Romeo and Juliet was in grade 8 so I may be wrong but- I would say this story was very LOOSELY inspired by the play itself- although the Loren and Callahan’s families were ‘rivals’ it was showed through their grandparents story rather than theirs- and Leon who I’m guessing was based on Tybalt Capulet being in love with Loren (Juliet) was not only icky but also a weak character motivation
That being said, I really liked Loren’s character- was she brass and impulsive at times? Yes. But something about her was so fun to me- and her relationship with the guards was cute.
As an ensemble cast with so many characters there was definitely room to flesh out all characters more but I’m assuming the author will do that as the series continues
Do not ask me about Cal I knew like 3 things about him and I’m pretty sure I’ve forgotten 2 so yeah he was also there I guess
