OF COURSE I was going to be interested in reading a book that's an homage to Shirley Jackson and Daphne Du Maurier. And it's a great book, but every so often, when the writing veered more into romance or certain non-horror descriptions, it wasn't to my taste (the word "azure" is used more than once, for example, and that's a word that rarely needs using, lest we sound like Baby's First Poem). But this is definitely more horror than romance, to be clear! I still definitely recommend, if you like Jackson or Du Maurier, or liked MEXICAN GOTHIC.
