ABOUT THE BOOK:

REVIEW:
I didn't think I could love Cameron this much after his cameos in [b:One and Only|152061930|One and Only (Wilder Family)|Karla Sorensen|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1683703875l/152061930._SY75_.jpg|144318130] but boy did he deliver! Add in the complex and admirable Ivy to the mix and the (for me) perfect way Karla weaves her stories.. *CHEF'S KISS*

It's fated, if you get stuck in an elevator with a handsome stranger right after you ran out of your wedding dress fitting, right? Ivy's life was always laid out in front of her, in black and white, just like a perfect chess game. Have great grades, attend the best schools, marry the son of her father's business partner, take over her father's legacy at his company.

For the first time this path seems the wrong one to take. With one fatal elevator ride and a scorching kiss shared between strangers, destiny stepped in.

Cameron's life is in shambles. His company got hit by a big project falling through, his father is sick, his brother is avoiding the family and small town rendezvous are just as miserable as you'd thought. Enter the snarky duchess from the city and he doesn't know up from down.

None of them thought they'd have another encounter - especially not in a professional setting. After sharing secrets and revealing their hidden insecurities in confined spaces, Ivy's returned to her Icy Queen self and Cameron is dead set on showing her what a true family and meaningful relationship is like.

I loved, loved how Cameron fell first, hard and without questions for Ivy. As their second meeting was maybe even more significant than the first time, he made sure to plant himself in her thoughts and feelings from the get go.

Ivy was a tad prickly, a bit misguided, her emotional availability and the family background she grew up in was less than ideal, more like something a general would do to their troops.

The city girl, small town boy trope played along to their personalities perfectly! Cameron was a total cinnamon roll, he was patient, understanding, a total knight in shining armour with the exterior of a lumberjack. He was a provider not only for his family, but his friends and he seemed to understand Ivy's need to seek validation, to be the badass in a men centered world. He didn't confuse the workaholic tendencies and goals with cold-heartedness and shrillness. Cameron comparing Ivy to the stray dog, afraid of the unknown and not understanding caring people was such a great metaphor for their situation.

It was beautiful to witness Ivy learning to lean on and letting people in - not just Cameron, but his rambunctious family. Her getting a chance to be a part of a loving, supportive group of people and being accepted for exactly who she is was beautifully documented, and the character's development was nuanced to perfection in my eyes.

The passion, love, tenderness shone through the pages, and I was sad to leave the Wilder family behind. Especially with the inevitable side story woven into the love story. I wish there were even more pages to the story, I could've read for several more chapters about Cameron and Ivy.
OH, AND JUST TO ADD: I highlighted the sh#t out of this one!
