Skinwalkers by Tony Hillerman

5.0

Not a book you should rush through. With the first chapter, there's suspense and in the next chapter suspicion has you turning on your heels. The dialog throughout this story is superbly written. Its natural and so revealing. It provides the reader with a clear picture of the characters and moves the plot steadily along. Unlike some authors' whose descriptions droll on and on, Hillerman used it sparingly and expertly with many little details (a sentence here or there). The mood and rhythm depicted that slower and quieter rural life (& reservation life) of New Mexico.

I would have loved to be inside Hillerman's head when he wrote this story and watched him work out the plot.

This book is definitely, for me, "a must read again".
