Killing Trail by Margaret Mizushima

4.0

This is my first book by Margaret Mizushima and I will definitely be reading more! Follow Timber Creek K-9 Officer Mattie Cobb and her partner Robo as they search for the murderer of a popular high school student, Grace, and soon after a local dog breeder, Mike.

Mattie and Robo are a great team who face hostile colleagues and townspeople, physical abuse, illegal drugs, all while they uncover m many secrets in their small town during the investigation. I think my favorite character is foster parent, Mama T (because the name Mother Theresa was already taken!). She was my highlight to the novel - every child needs a Mama T in their life.

While this is definitely a murder/suspense mystery, it also easily deals with both healthy and unhealthy relationships, self, trusting yourself and others, and the sense of community - especially in a small town. People helping people just because its' the right thing to do.
