Behind Closed Doors by W.R. Gingell
5.0
adventurous fast-paced

Behind Closed doors is the second in The Worlds Behind series, itself a spin off series from the excellent City Between series. I think it’s best to start with the very first book in City Between, Between Jobs, since Gingell layers so many intricate plot points, character arcs, and world building details in her books. Seeing all the pieces come together and picking out new threads and clues is part of the joy in reading. The second series might be read by itself, but you’d miss out on a lot of wonderful stuff.

In this book, Athelas and Yeowoo reluctantly work together to bring down an illegal contract market (slave ring) and we learn more of both their histories. There are twisty Fae, mysterious humans, and weird behindkind. It’s a fast page turner with delicious dialogue.

My one criticism is that I don’t particularly care for this cover. This Athelas doesn’t fit my mind image.
