I really hate rating books low, especially when I loved the beginning. Maude does have some character development but for a book that seems to be about going against the patriarchy, I was incredibly disappointed when Maude is faced with a difficult choice and 1) makes the selfish one when most of her character development has been about her learning to stop being selfish and 2) falls right into a patriarchal trap. The last third of the book took a bit of a jarring turn of events and completely altered my entire view of this story.
