Bound by Temptation by Cora Reilly

4.0

I never expected to get so invested in this series. It's not exceptionally well written or packed with impressive plots but it does provide the necessary mafia drama and I'm here for it. I wasn't particularly looking forward to getting to know Liliana, in previous books she appeared to be nothing but a huge mess yet she was quick to win me over with her lovable self. She was kind and composed like Aria and daring with a taste for trouble like Gianna, it came as no surprise that she bewitched a man like Romero out of his oaths.

Romero—I don't know where to start with him, he is the best character in the entire series, no one can change my mind. That man knows what he wants and doesn't hesitate, even his loyalty to Cosa Nostra couldn't stop his love for Liliana, he was so willing to put his life on the line for her. Liliana and Romero had to fight against all their differences even risk a potential war to be with each other. The whole forbidden romance thing between a mafia princess and a mere soldier of enemy territory kept up the thrill till the end. Though there were some things I'd rather not have to read.

I knew Scuderi was a cruel man and a strict father ontop, however there are limits to everything. I might have overlooked his actions towards his late wife but sacrificing his own daughter in a marriage to an old man just so he could marry said old man's barely of age daughter? Like how sick someone could be?

Also, Liliana, no matter how much I adore her for rebelling against her sorry excuse of a father, it wasn't so nice of her to sneak into someone's bedroom or worse, in their shower like a creep, crush or not, we just don't do that. It was almost too amusing to watch Luca being pushed around the entire book by his own people and helplessly giving into their every demand. It would have been nice if he and Matteo didn't so often make inappropriate comments on Liliana, I don't care if it's a joke.

It was getting uncomfortable the way the men never really took their wives out on a proper date other than business related events. I know they are overprotective and all but there's only so much one could take. Romero kind of came in and saved the day by being the most decent guy who doesn't blame his actions on his position as a made man and doesn't try to intimidate every living, breathing thing or be disrespectful to anyone. He's the sunshine protector in shiny armor. Then there is the youngest Scuderi, Fabiano. I really wish their father would die in his own sleep before he gets to corrupt that precious little soul and hopefully he, along with the next generation underbosses will finally get rid of those ridiculous rules of their world.
