The Disasters by M.K. England

3.0

This was a really fast-paced read with fun characters. The story involved hacking and space travel, so you can't really go wrong there. What I appreciated less was the forced feel of the diversity. Please don't read that wrong! We need more diverse books! It just felt, at times, like the author was straining to make every character hold an identity that is traditionally underrepresented. I was really glad England was being aware and making the choice to represent these identities, but it did not feel natural and that left a feeling of falseness.

Overall, I really liked this book and would recommend it to YA folks, especially, but it was notable, for me, in its disingenuousness.
