Fighting for You by Alise Monroe

I received an ARC from the authors and am providing my honest review of my own accord.
Fighting For You is book 2 in the Ripple Effect series by Alisa Monroe, and while it does take place around the same timeframe as book 1, it is technically a standalone and can be read separately. That being said, the timeline felt a little rushed/off and made me wish I had read the first book or that Brooks and Margot’s story took place after. Either way, this book hit hard with our tortured soul MMC and innocent FMC.
The book follows Brooks, a “bad boy” with so many walls up he could be a fortress. Life hasn’t been the easiest, with him feeling like his parents never cared and everyone just brushing him off as the loser who’ll never amount to anything. But when Margot comes into the picture, the cracks start to form and Brooks begins to think he may be capable of more.
Margot is a nurse, always wanting to ensure everyone is cared for and loved. However, with secrets burdening her down she’s headed for a breakdown, will she be willing to accept help to fix her broken pieces?
Overall, I enjoyed Brooks and Margot’s story. There was some decent chemistry throughout and the spice was great. The way Brooks pined over Margot was everything, that first date he planned was so swoon worthy.
I will say, I think these two could have easily been more of a slow burn romance, the tension was there and it really could’ve added to the story with them resisting for longer.
I also think Brooks should have grovelled way more, Margot forgave him too quickly especially after what he did. While I do feel bad for Brooks, he tended to blame everyone else for his actions and it got a bit redundant.
Either way, I loved these characters and the world that the authors built. The added suspense in the last 20% was intense and definitely helped bring this book up in my ranking so if you’re into the romantic suspense genre this is a great option!
