The Descent of Monsters by Neon Yang

5.0

5 stars

A beautiful addition to Neon Yang’s Tensorate universe. This is the third novella and my favorite in the series so far.

The plot is revealed through diary entries and letters, which fit both the writing style and the short length of the story. The protagonist is Chuwan Sariman, a new character to the universe, but older characters make appearances as well and tie the story to the previous two entries in the series.

This is a combination of “Jurassic Park” monsters and “Carrie”-esque horror, and the story does an excellent job of bringing a unique tone to the series while still slotting into the overall world. Great job, and I hope that there are more Tensorate novellas (or maybe a novel?) coming in the future.
