Magic Bites - 4.5 Stars

I started listening to this audiobook on a trip with a friend a few years ago. I really liked it. And so my friends got me the series! This is Book #1!

What did I love about the book? - It’s urban fantasy. I’ve always enjoyed modern twists on fantasy. This book has roch world building and a complex magic system. There is definitely more to learn about it through the remaining books. The main character is 25 and the murder of her guardian sets her off on a new and exciting adventure. What seems obvious isn’t actually obvious in this book, which I really enjoyed. I’m hoping characters from this book, other than the main lead, return in the subsequent books! The main lead has juuuust enough of her backstory left out to want to continue with the series so I can learn all about her! She’s strong and independent. Sometimes a little too much of the “I don’t need anyone” stereotype that was prevalent in the mid 2000s when this was published. But it doesn’t take away from the book or character as a whole.

What didn’t I like about the book? - What made me go with a 4.5 on this book was that sometimes the magic system seemed a little confusing. I’m hoping to learn more about it in the following books. But it didn’t feel totally fleshed out in an opening book like I usually like.

Over all opinion of the book? - It’s a good book! It’s an easier read. I think it’s more adult than YA, and as we know, I’m mostly a YA girlie. But it was enjoyable and I’ll continue with the rest of the series over the next few weeks! I definitely recommend reading it if you’re looking for an urban fantasy, or looking to get into it at all!
