Tokyo Express by Seichō Matsumoto
4.0
a fascinating little murder mystery, told with the specificity and tact of a master storyteller.
everything about 'tokyo express' is meticulously planned - from its plot to its surprisingly likeable main characters. the admiration jutaro and mihara show towards one another was a very pleasant addition to the story!!
the structure and addition of maps and diagrams made this an even more immersive read, one that I finished in a 3 day marathon! I won't soon forget the suspense I felt reading the final 10 pages or so.
despite the direct and often sparse writing, I felt immersed in the post-ww2 setting and its atmosphere of grief. excellent!!
