American Psycho
by Bret Easton Ellis
Thank GOD it’s over. I feel like I was trapped on a 400 page, two month long date against my will. I left with a much deeper appreciation for Mary Harron and Guinevere Turner for somehow managing to piece together a screenplay equally disturbing yet empathic from the sardonic and intrusive ramblings found in Bret Easton Ellis’ book. And don’t get me wrong, his tone and continued exploration of dark subject matter is not lost on me- I’m more than capable of separating fact from fiction and confronting uncomfortable truths. But good lord, how harrowingly visceral and torturous. No happy ending, no justice served, no change of heart. Men hate women and that’s that.
