Is it reductive to call Alison Cochrun the queer Emily Henry? Okay, probably, but I do think if you're a fan of the latter and aren't reading Cochrun, you're doing yourself a disservice.
I've loved all of Cochrun's previous works, but I was hesitant about this one. The synopsis didn't seem as lighthearted and fun as the other two novels. I shouldn't have worried. Don't get me wrong, I was sobbing by the end, but I also had lots of laughs along the way.
If there is something that won't work in this book, it's going to be the characters. They're all flawed and at times difficult to engage with. In particular, I struggled with Joe because I found him manipulative and rather terrible at times. But somehow, he still won me over.
