I enjoyed this a lot. More like a 4.5. The writing was good and the world and story intrigued me. Pacing was definitely slow but that doesn't bother me when there's a lot to dig into, which there definitely was. My main gripe was with characters. I didn't dislike them, but I wished there had been more variety of POVs. The central protagonist was less interesting than several side characters. I plan to read more of the series and I think there's potential to feel like 5 stars in retrospect.
