What Fury Brings by Tricia Levenseller
4.0

What Fury Brings revolves around a really interesting concept of role reversal of typical gender roles in fantasy. This takes place in one country with others (especially their close neighbour) firmly rooted in the patriarchy. I actually found this one bit uncomfortable to read at times with the treatment of the mmc but I suppose that was the point. This is pretty unsual for me so I would recommend looking at trigger warnings, this is a dark book.

However, I could barely put this book down. I devoured it in two days and was always eager to find out what happens next. The characters were interesting and the relationship between Olerra and Sanos was great. My only quibble was it was slow burn till it suddenly wasnt, this does feel like a book where another in the series could've helped give a tiny bit of breathing room. However, for a standalone it worked pretty well, full of tension for sure.

The politics in the battle for being named heir between Olerra and her cousin were really interesting, I just wish it was fleshed out a tiny bit more.

Overall though, a really riveting and somewhat uncomfortable read, I absolutely flew through it. The concept is fantastic but maybe needs a little more space to fully flesh it out but that's just a downside of a standalone I suppose!
