Left on Tenth: A Second Chance at Life: A Memoir by Delia Ephron

3.0

This is a good book. Not amazing - like the NYT promised - but solid. It’s a story of incredible love and unimaginable strength in the face of a truly ruthless disease. But, and maybe only because I read this in the middle of awful news stories, it’s also the story of wealth and privilege. The story would start, develop and end very differently if the patient did not have access to a bigger, brighter room (b/c she wanted her husband with her), or the means to fly around the world when she could, or the support of friends in the same demographic. I’m not minimizing Ephron’s experience, but the book left me sad not because of what she endured, but because so few others would every be given the opportunity to.
