Using the Quran to examine her queerness was beautiful and brilliant. I’ve never taken a deep dive into Islam and this book really reinforced the parallels between Islam, Christianity, and Judaism for me and further cemented my own belief that all religions are bullshit and at best, moralistic fables we can learn from and at worst, violent means of control. Beautiful book all in all, except when the queer speak was just like *a little* too buzzy and when the author used the word “contour” like every other chapter (the contours of my faith, the contours of my body, etc. etc.) I know that’s a stupid annoying bit picky hyper specific critique, but it drove me crazy. I’ll finish on a high note. “Gutsy as fuck, this child” is one of my favorite lines I’ve read in awhile!
