The Last Battle by C.S. Lewis
4.0

More 3.5 stars than 4, The Last Battle is a fitting end to the series, but also is one of the worst entries in it. The majority of the plot is fine, just not up to the standard of the series. This book is really all about the last few chapters where Lewis wraps up the series. The ending succeeds in bringing together all the familiar faces (except notably one) and it is a happy ending that many will enjoy. However, where I think the novel faltered, and the series as a whole is weakest, is in Lewis' world building. As the series continued, the world of Narnia got bigger and more complicated without getting more interesting. The stories were always solid, but the world itself was at its best when it was at its simplest, in The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. All in all, a largely forgettable novel that is saved by an interesting ending to wrap up the series.
