The Chandler Legacies by Abdi Nazemian

4.0

"The Chandler Legacies" follows a group of young adults coming of age at a prestigious boarding school. Throughout the story, the readers learn about instances of hazing and harassment perpetuated by both fellow students and professors alike that affects the main characters. The decisions and the decisions of those around them ultimately come to a head when the main characters decide to take action, despite their initial hesitation and fear of retaliation.

I appreciated how the alternating POVs were utilized to reveal details about the story that paralleled or even overlapped with other characters. It's also clear to me that the story's meaning and plot is very personal to the author, and I think bringing hazing and bullying outside of a college context is important for the public eye (especially because in a college context it's mostly within the realm of fraternity/sororities).

While I do wish the readers had learned more about the consequences the antagonists of the book faced (trying to keep things spoiler-free here), I also understand that much like real life, sometimes especially in privileged places, those who deserve to be held accountable for their actions don't always end up that way.
