The Sex Lives of African Women by Nana Darkoa Sekyiamah

THIS BOOK!!!!

I read it as part of Storygraph’s read the world challenge and honestly it probably never would have been on my radar otherwise. It’s so vibrant and relevant and everyone, particularly every woman, should read it.

The stories felt both necessary and educational, about the experiences of Black women both on the continent and in the Diaspora. It also felt relevant, to pieces of my own experiences with sexual trauma and being LGBTQ+.

It’s a perfect example of why stories do what self-help and academic books try to do, and they do it better.
