Captive by Aimée Carter
2.0
"There's no such thing as a bloodless revolution."
I didn't like Captive as much as I enjoyed Pawn.
In Pawn, I loved Kitty. Even though she wasn't perfect, she was exactly the type of protagonist I liked - strong, brave, and willing to fight for what she believes in at all cost. I rooted for her from beginning to end because she never disappointed me or made me regret rooting for her. In this sequel, Kitty's stubbornness (which I already knew was a weakness of hers) was unbelievably irritating. I have no problem with characters being headstrong and breaking the rules for the greater good, but there were many times where her obstinacy became stupidity.
To continue, I wasn't feeling the romance between Kitty and Benjy. I just didn't feel like it fit in this book. Sometimes it felt like Carter was trying too hard to make me care about Benjy, and he's nice and all, but he's one of those characters that I wouldn't mind if they died because if anything, he's more of a liability to Kitty than any real help. But I guess he needs to be around if he's gonna be used as a bargaining chip over Kitty all the time.
The plot was fast paced as in the first book, but I wasn't quite as sucked in by the events that happened. I didn't care for any of the new characters that were introduced. Most of them were one time coconuts meant for exposition. I like the
I don't know...I hope the last book is better. I'm disappointed.
